A Weekend In Seattle Washington

Last weekend Nathaniel and I had made our way to Seattle Washington to celebrate his 21st birthday! His birthday is originally on the 13th of April, but to spare some hurt feelings we decided to go the next weekend and take a few days to explore and sightsee this beautiful green covered city.

While we first booked this trip we had already decided that we were going to jump on the earliest flight there and come back home on a later flight. (We wanted to be able to make the most out of our three day adventures.) Thankfully our plan worked out and It gave us a few more hours to venture out and see the incredible exhibits we were wanting to see without feeling rushed or like we missed out on anything. The only down fall we found to taking a later flight, is our Airbnb guy had us checkout at 11am and our flight wasn't for another 7 hours! (Which of course caused us to completely panic and google like our lives depended on it.) We were grateful to find a webpage that had told us we would be able to keep our belongings at any hotel for a few hours. The only price was a small slip of a tip to the concierge. (It did become a little inconvenient as the day moved on, because we had to constantly stay close to the hotel for the rest of our trip.)

After three rather short hours we had landed in Seattle on a very sunny Thursday morning. We hopped on a light rail (kind of like a Subway.), grabbed a Lyft to our Airbnb, (I personally love Airbnb! It gives us a little look into what it would be like to live in a different city without having the attachment of a lease.) and nosied our way through the house into the most incredible back yard that I couldn't even dream up! (Fully fabricated of green hues and deep browns.) Even the insects were enjoying the view as they basked in the ever so rare sun. After going through and enjoying all that our Airbnb had to offer, we cleaned ourselves up and headed back out to revel in all of Seattle’s well known attractions.

Seattle is of course known for it's gloomy days and rain filled gutters. But while we were there it was as if the sun had followed us from Vegas! (It only sprinkled once while we were visiting and it was our very last day while we were on a Ferry!)

So, we decide to take full advantage of the sweet weather and went full tourist to experience all that Seattle has to offer. Usually we let the trip guide us and just enjoy our time of being in a new city, but this time was a little different. Especially because Nathaniel was not going to let us leave without visiting the science center at least once while we were there! So we just bought a tourist booklet which was about $80 for five attractions. We only went to the science center, (Nathaniel's favorite! It took us about five hours to go through the entire center and the whole time it he was like a child in a chocolate factory! SO WORTH IT!) Lol we experienced the space needle, (Sadly, there was a lot of construction going on while we were there. So, half the needle was closed. At least the line was short!) and the aquarium. (Which is surprisingly bigger than we had thought.) It ended up taking us on all of these twists and turns in the building, but there weren't any sharks or whales so I'll be honest and say I was a little disappointed. On a side note, while we were on the Ferry I was death starring the ocean searching for at least one whale! Lol (Can you tell I'm from the desert?) Sadly all we saw was a seal and it was definitely mocking us from a distance! Haha We wanted to go to the Zoo as well, but we decided to go on the "Seattle Great Wheel" instead. Which is a giant lit up Ferris wheel parked on the edge of a dock. (We did this later in the day to be able to watch the sunset, but the clouds refused to budge so we looked out into the dark sky and blue ocean instead.

Our second day, we ventured to Pikes Place Market where the original Starbucks takes place and all of those famous fish tossing scenes that are in movies! (We thought it was way more fascinating than it probably is.) Lol Pikes Place is definitely for crowd surfing, fish loving, shopaholics. If you're none of those, you're probably like me who enjoyed it from afar. I'm a little claustrophobic and I have a very sensitive sense of smell. So I loved seeing the community come together and all of the beautiful flowers, but I couldn't stay in there for more than 15 minutes before I freaked!

We did find the Gum Wall, which resides right under neither Pikes Place Market and for a Friday it definitely wasn't as crazy as we had thought it was going to be. Neither of us had packed gum for our trip so we made a quick stop at Target. (Which is where I got that sweet shot of Nathaniel underneath the cherry blossom trees.) All of the attractions there were amazing, but it's the plant life that had me completely starstruck. I would definitely go back just to see all of that green again! And the ocean view wasn't too bad either ;).
